Service interruption via nfsd layoutget memory leak
Published Sep 15, 2025 · Updated Sep 15, 2025
Resource leak in the nfsd component of affected Linux kernel releases allows local users to interrupt service through failing NFSv4 layoutget operations. The nfsd4_encode_operation trivial-reply path marshals only the status and skips op_release, leaving layoutget resources allocated when op_func records an error. Reachability requires an active nfsd layoutget path; repeated failures can exhaust kernel memory and interrupt service.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
