CVE-2023-53182

Local system crash via null-pointer arithmetic

Published Sep 15, 2025 · Updated Sep 15, 2025

Null-pointer arithmetic in affected Linux kernel versions allows local users to crash the system during ACPI object initialization. In acpi_ds_init_aml_walk, the ACPICA dispatcher applies a zero offset to a null AML pointer, invoking undefined C behavior. The path runs during ACPI object initialization, and published scoring limits exploitation to low-privileged local users and availability loss.
