CVE-2023-53141

Service interruption via empty ILA mapping message

Published May 2, 2025 · Updated May 11, 2026

Denial of service in the Linux kernel ILA subsystem from 4.5 allows local users to interrupt service through a mapping request. ila_xlat_nl_cmd_get_mapping() replies with a zero-length socket buffer when no mapping payload is produced, causing skb_assert_len in the transmit path to fire. Reaching the path requires low-privileged local access to the generic-netlink ILA interface; the demonstrated consequence is an availability failure rather than data disclosure or modification.
