Kernel memory corruption via freed veth skb
Published May 2, 2025 · Updated Aug 5, 2026
Use-after-free in Linux kernel 5.18 through affected 6.x branches allows local users to corrupt kernel memory via veth traffic. In veth_xdp_rcv_skb, pskb_expand_head allocates a new skb head that consume_skb frees while AF_XDP still reads it during XDP_REDIRECT. An XDP_REDIRECT program and AF_XDP socket must be configured on a veth peer; exploitation can disclose or alter kernel memory or crash the host.
