CVE-2023-53087Public exploit

Local kernel compromise via barrier tracker reuse

Published May 2, 2025 · Updated Aug 5, 2026

Race condition in affected Linux kernel versions beginning with 5.5 allows local users with DRM access to corrupt kernel memory. The i915 active-tracker code ignores a failed barrier deletion and reuses the still-linked node as a fence callback, corrupting shared list state. Ordinary DRM/render-node access is sufficient; successful exploitation discloses or modifies kernel memory, while triggering the race can crash the host.
