Remote kernel corruption via duplicate splice page insertion
Published May 2, 2025 · Updated Aug 5, 2026
Out-of-bounds write in Linux kernel 5.19 and affected commits allows remote attackers to corrupt memory via NFS READ requests. During a partial-page splice continuation, nfsd_splice_actor inserts the same page into rq_pages twice until rq_next_page overruns the array and overwrites adjacent pointers. Any host permitted by a typical AUTH_SYS export can trigger the flaw without server-verified credentials, enabling kernel memory disclosure, control-flow hijacking, or a server crash.
