CVE-2023-53077

Kernel undefined behavior via invalid shift count

Published May 2, 2025 · Updated May 11, 2026

Undefined behavior in the AMD display mode library in Linux allows local users to trigger an invalid bit shift through a zero-sized PTE buffer. CalculateVMAndRowBytes passes zero PTEBufferSizeInRequests through dml_log2(), then uses the unexpected negative result as a shift count. Reachability requires the AMD display driver and the zero-size buffer state; public records identify a UBSAN warning but establish no crash or data impact.
