Out-of-bounds memory access via unchecked PHY address
Published Mar 27, 2025 · Updated May 11, 2026
Out-of-bounds array access in the Linux kernel 4.5 through 6.1 allows attackers to trigger invalid memory access through a PHY address. mdiobus_get_phy() indexes the mdio_map array with an unchecked addr value, and stmmac_init_phy() can supply -1, reading beyond the array. Reachability depends on an MDIO-using network driver passing an out-of-range PHY address; the published record establishes memory access outside the array but not code execution.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
