CVE-2023-52976

Local system crash via unchecked memory remap

Published Mar 27, 2025 · Updated May 23, 2026

NULL pointer dereference in the Linux kernel EFI module allows local users to crash affected systems through a failed memory remap. The efi_mem_reserve_persistent function dereferences the pointer returned by memremap while walking its linked list without first checking for NULL. The vulnerable path handles persistent EFI memory reservations; published sources do not identify how low-privileged users induce the remap failure.
