Denial of service in affected MariaDB Server releases allows remote authenticated users to crash the server via a crafted INSERT SELECT. The query optimizer fails to buffer an INSERT SELECT result when a derived table reads the insert target, leaving Item_direct_view_ref::derived_field_transformer_for_where to process an invalid field reference. A high-privilege database account must submit the query; the demonstrated consequence is a server crash, not data disclosure or modification.
