CVE-2023-52840

System crash via freed RMI function dereference

Published May 21, 2024 · Updated May 11, 2026

Use-after-free in the Linux kernel synaptics-rmi4 input driver allows local users to crash the system during function removal. rmi_unregister_function() calls put_device(), which releases and frees fn, then reads fn->num_of_irqs before unregistering the IRQ domain. Reachability requires the affected RMI4 driver and its function-removal path; the documented consequence is a local system crash.
