Local memory corruption via unchecked SVM granularity
Published May 21, 2024 · Updated May 11, 2026
Out-of-bounds write in AMD KFD SVM code in affected Linux kernel releases allows local users to corrupt memory via a crafted granularity. The svm_range_apply_attrs function copies the 32-bit KFD_IOCTL_SVM_ATTR_GRANULARITY value into prange->granularity without limiting it, so migration code can use values above 63 as a 64-bit shift exponent. Low-privileged local access to an AMD GPU with the KFD SVM path is required; the undefined shift occurs in kernel context.
