Kernel memory corruption via unallocated ring headers
Published May 21, 2024 · Updated Aug 5, 2026
Out-of-bounds access in the Linux kernel MIPI I3C HCI driver allows local users to corrupt kernel memory through I3C/I2C bus traffic. The hci_dma_irq_handler function iterates interrupt bits beyond the ring headers allocated and enabled by hci_dma_init, then dereferences rings->headers[i]. On multi-ring-capable I3C HCI hardware, low-privileged local bus transfers can trigger kernel memory disclosure, corruption, or a panic without user interaction.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
