CVE-2023-52755Network attack vector

Kernel code execution via unchecked ACL offsets

Published May 21, 2024 · Updated Aug 5, 2026

Out-of-bounds write in Linux ksmbd allows remote attackers to corrupt kernel memory through crafted SMB security descriptors. smb_inherit_dacl() trusts owner, group, and DACL offsets from a parent security descriptor even when they exceed the allocated pntsd buffer, causing ACL and SID data to be copied beyond the slab object. A guest-accessible writable share can expose the path without credentials; successful exploitation can panic the host or execute code in the kernel.
