CVE-2023-52711

SMM memory corruption via exposed SMI handler

Published May 28, 2024 · Updated Aug 2, 2024

Improper access control in Huawei CurieM-WFG9B BIOS 2.28 allows local users to expose or corrupt SMM memory through an SMI handler. The AmdPspP2CmboxV2 handler accepts a source buffer whose size and pointer can be altered to overlap SMM, bypassing earlier UEFI protections on direct SPI-flash access. Exploitation requires low-privileged local access and alteration of the source-buffer size; disclosure exposes SMM data, while corruption can enable SMM code execution.
