CVE-2023-52706

Local service interruption via leaked GPIO hogs

Published May 21, 2024 · Updated May 11, 2026

Memory leak in affected Linux kernel builds from 5.17 through 6.2-rc8 allows local users to exhaust memory during GPIO hog teardown. The loop in gpio_sim_remove_hogs() tests for an absent chip label instead of a present one, so it skips freeing populated GPIO hog names. Repeated teardown requires local low-privileged access to configured GPIO simulator devices and can interrupt service as kernel memory is depleted.
