CVE-2023-52686

Kernel crash via unchecked interrupt-name allocation

Published May 17, 2024 · Updated May 11, 2026

NULL pointer dereference in the Linux kernel allows local users to crash PowerNV systems during OPAL event initialization. opal_event_init() fails to check whether kasprintf() returned NULL before using the result as an interrupt name. Reachability is limited to PowerNV on PowerPC and requires an allocation failure during initialization; the documented impact is a kernel crash without confidentiality or integrity loss.
