CVE-2023-52669Network attack vector

Kernel crash via partial-block CTR overread

Published May 17, 2024 · Updated Aug 5, 2026

An out-of-bounds read in the Linux kernel allows remote attackers to crash s390 IPsec gateways with crafted packet lengths. The s390 CTR AES path reads a full 16-byte block for a partial final block, overreading up to 15 bytes and faulting when the read crosses a mapped page. Remote reachability requires an s390 host configured as an XFRM/ESP IPsec gateway; local AF_ALG access can trigger the same kernel fault.
