CVE-2023-52654

Local denial of service via io_uring descriptor race

Published May 9, 2024 · Updated Aug 5, 2026

Race condition in Linux kernel io_uring and AF_UNIX handling allows local users to interrupt service through SCM_RIGHTS descriptor passing. The kernel permits io_uring descriptors to cross UNIX sockets, creating registered-file reference cycles while unix_stream_read_generic races socket garbage collection. An unprivileged local process must create and transfer the descriptors; the resulting resource leak or unsafe cleanup affects host availability.
