CVE-2023-52618Network attack vector

Block-device disclosure via truncated RNBD server path

Published Mar 18, 2024 · Updated May 11, 2026

Path truncation in the Linux kernel RNBD server allows remote attackers to read data from an unintended block device. rnbd_srv_get_full_path joins the configured dev_search_path and an RNBD open message's dev_name with snprintf into a PATH_MAX buffer but does not reject truncation before opening the resulting path. Network reachability to an enabled RNBD server and a dev_search_path long enough for the crafted device name to exceed PATH_MAX are required; the published impact is limited to confidentiality.
