Kernel-memory disclosure and crash via unchecked menu index
Published Mar 2, 2024 · Updated Aug 5, 2026
Out-of-bounds read in Linux kernel uvcvideo 6.1.16 through 6.1.55 and 6.3 through 6.5.5 allows local users to read kernel memory. The uvc_query_v4l2_menu function passes an unchecked V4L2 menu index to test_bit against the fixed-size menu_mask. Access to a UVC video device and permission to query its V4L2 controls are required; the read can expose kernel memory or crash the kernel.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
