CVE-2023-52464

Kernel memory corruption via unchecked string concatenation

Published Feb 23, 2024 · Updated May 11, 2026

Out-of-bounds write in Linux 4.12 and later allows local users to corrupt kernel memory through ThunderX OCX error handling. The thunderx_ocx_com_threaded_isr handler passes the full 1,024-byte destination size as strncat's source-copy limit instead of tracking remaining capacity, so accumulated error text can exceed the allocated message buffer. Exploitation requires local low-privileged access and a system using the ThunderX OCX EDAC driver; successful corruption can compromise kernel confidentiality, integrity, and availability.
