CVE-2023-52462

Kernel-state corruption via misindexed BPF spill check

Published Feb 23, 2024 · Updated May 23, 2026

Incorrect BPF verifier stack validation in Linux 5.10.163 through 5.10.208 and other affected branches allows local users to corrupt kernel state. The verifier checks slot_type[0] instead of the marker at slot_type[7], so a crafted partial-width stack write can evade the spilled-pointer guard. Loading the crafted BPF program requires CAP_BPF or CAP_SYS_ADMIN, and the published assessment limits the reported consequence to integrity.
