System crash via physical socket ID indexing
Published Feb 22, 2024 · Updated May 11, 2026
NULL pointer dereference in the Intel uncore subsystem of the Linux kernel allows local users to crash the kernel through performance events. discover_upi_topology() uses a physical rather than logical socket ID to index the topology array, causing out-of-bounds access before upi_fill_topology() dereferences the resulting entry. Exploitation requires local low-privileged access and a relevant Intel UPI topology; the documented consequence is a system availability interruption.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
