CVE-2023-52434Network attack vector

Kernel crash via unchecked SMB2 context offsets

Published Feb 20, 2024 · Updated Aug 5, 2026

Out-of-bounds read in affected Linux kernel SMB clients allows remote attackers to crash the kernel via a crafted SMB2 response. smb2_parse_contexts dereferences attacker-controlled CreateContextsOffset, NameOffset, DataOffset, and Next values without first validating their bounds. Exploitation requires the host to mount or access a share served or impersonated by the attacker; impact includes a kernel oops and adjacent kernel-memory disclosure.
