CVE-2023-5227Network attack vector

Stored dangerous-file delivery via unchecked image MIME

Published Sep 30, 2023 · Updated Sep 23, 2024

Dangerous file upload in phpMyFAQ before 3.1.8 allows remote authenticated users to store non-image content through category images. CategoryImage::upload accepts a file after getimagesize validation but, before the patch, never checks its detected MIME type against permitted JPEG, GIF, and PNG types. Image-management access and later user interaction are required, and the stored file can affect confidentiality, integrity, and availability in the viewer's context.
