CVE-2023-52238Network attack vector

Ethernet frame decryption via cleartext MACsec key

Published Jul 9, 2024 · Updated Aug 27, 2025

Information disclosure in Siemens RUGGEDCOM RST2228 and RST2228P before 5.9.0 allows remote authenticated users to obtain a MACsec key. The devices' web server returns the MACsec key in clear text to a logged-in low-privileged account instead of restricting access to the secret. Low-privileged web credentials and access to TCP ports 80 or 443 are required; the key permits decryption of Ethernet frames sent by authorized recipients.
