Contributor privilege escalation via unchecked role option
Published Aug 1, 2024 · Updated Apr 28, 2026
Privilege escalation in WPForms User Registration 2.1.0 and earlier allows remote authenticated users to create higher-privileged accounts. A missing capability check when adding a role option lets contributors configure a registration form to assign a higher role. Contributor-level access and privileged-user interaction are required; successful submission creates an account with the selected elevated role.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
Is a vulnerable build present?
Compare these published version ranges with your installed build and any vendor patches.
