CVE-2023-52159Network attack vector

Daemon crash via incorrect log-entry concatenation

Published Mar 18, 2024 · Updated Mar 20, 2025

Stack-based buffer overflow in gross 0.9.3 through 1.x before 1.0.4 allows remote attackers to crash grossd via SMTP parameters. The daemon uses an incorrect strncat operation when appending attacker-controlled SMTP transaction parameters to a stack-buffered log entry, allowing the write to exceed the destination boundary. Unauthenticated network access to the SMTP transaction path is sufficient to interrupt service; reliable arbitrary-code execution has not been demonstrated publicly.
