SYSTEM code execution via VSApiNt file deletion
Published Jan 23, 2024 · Updated Jun 20, 2025
Link following in Trend Micro Apex One Security Agent allows local users to escalate privileges and execute code as SYSTEM. A crafted mount point causes the VSApiNt driver in the Virus Scan Engine to delete a file at the redirected target without safely resolving the link. Exploitation requires low-privileged code execution on an affected Windows endpoint and yields arbitrary code execution as SYSTEM.
