Stored XSS via case-sensitive SVG rename check
Published Dec 28, 2023 · Updated Aug 2, 2024
Stored XSS in Winter CMS before 1.2.4 allows remote authenticated users to execute script through a renamed Media Manager SVG. MediaLibrary::moveFile checks the new extension against lowercase svg without normalizing case, so an uppercase or mixed-case SVG suffix bypasses sanitization. Exploitation requires media.manage_media permission, local media storage on the application domain, and a victim who directly visits the malicious SVG URL.
