CVE-2023-52080

Memory disclosure and crash via GetVariable overflow

Published Apr 29, 2024 · Updated Aug 2, 2024

Pool overflow in IEIT NF5280M6 UEFI firmware 8.4 and earlier allows local users to tamper with memory via modified NVRAM variables. The firmware misuses gRT->GetVariable() when reading attacker-controlled NVRAM data from SPI Flash, allowing the returned data to overflow a pool buffer. Exploitation requires access to local NVRAM variables and can expose memory contents or corrupt critical memory until the server crashes.
