CVE-2023-51887Public exploitNetwork attack vector

Unauthenticated command execution via which-directive filter bypass

Published Jan 24, 2024 · Updated Jun 20, 2025

Command injection in Mathtex 1.05 and earlier allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary commands through a crafted CGI URL. The main function passes the \which argument to whichpath(), which invokes popen(), after a denylist that omits semicolons and permits $IFS. No authentication or user interaction is required; successful exploitation runs commands with the web server process's privileges.
