Local system crash via unlocked receive queue
Published Dec 25, 2023 · Updated Aug 2, 2024
Use-after-free in the Linux kernel before 6.6.8 allows local users to crash the system through concurrent ROSE socket operations. rose_ioctl reads an skb from sk_receive_queue without its lock, while rose_accept can dequeue and free the same skb before rose_ioctl reads its length. Low-privileged local access and a ROSE socket are required; a system crash is established, while arbitrary code execution is reported but not demonstrated.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.

What attackers are doing with it
Daily unique IPs observed by Shadowserver honeypots for known exploited vulnerabilities (KEVs). Missing observations do not establish an absence of attacks.
