Code execution via unsanitized CSV formulas
Published Dec 24, 2023 · Updated Feb 23, 2026
CSV injection in ActiveAdmin before 3.2.0 allows remote authenticated users to trigger code execution or data exfiltration via crafted admin data. The CSVBuilder writes column names and row values beginning with formula-control characters into CSV output without prefixing an apostrophe. Exploitation requires permission to upload the exported data and a victim who opens the CSV in a spreadsheet and permits formula evaluation.
