CVE-2023-51651

Arbitrary S3 object access via dot-segment normalization

Published Dec 22, 2023 · Updated Aug 2, 2024

Path traversal in RestSerializer in AWS SDK for PHP before 3.288.1 allows attackers to access arbitrary S3 objects via crafted keys. RestSerializer::buildEndpoint passes dot-segment paths to Guzzle's UriResolver, which removes ../ components and changes the signed request target. Exploitation requires influence over an object key or prefix supplied by an application with AWS credentials, and resulting access remains bounded by that application's S3 permissions.
