Authenticated root code execution via SetSysEmailSettings overflow
Published May 3, 2024 · Updated Aug 2, 2024
Stack-based buffer overflow in D-Link DIR-X3260 firmware 1.04B01 allows remote authenticated users to execute arbitrary code as root. The SetSysEmailSettings handler in prog.cgi copies a user-supplied HNAP string into a fixed-length stack buffer without adequate validation. Exploitation requires administrative authentication and adjacent-network access to the router's HTTP or HTTPS management service.
