Root code execution via PSK stack overflow
Published May 3, 2024 · Updated Aug 2, 2024
Stack-based buffer overflow in D-Link DIR-X3260 1.04B01 allows remote authenticated users on the adjacent network to execute code as root. The SetQuickVPNSettings PSK path in prog.cgi copies a user-supplied string into a fixed-length stack buffer without validating its length. Access to the HNAP service on TCP ports 80 or 443 and administrative authentication are required; successful exploitation runs attacker-controlled code with root privileges.
