Subscriber-to-Administrator escalation via unrestricted option update
Published Apr 12, 2024 · Updated Apr 28, 2026
Missing authorization in Undsgn Uncode Core 2.8.8 and earlier allows remote authenticated users to gain any WordPress role. The save_option AJAX handler accepts option_id and value from POST and passes both to update_option without a capability check or key allowlist. Subscriber access exposes the reusable nonce, permitting changes that enable registration and set the default new-user role to Administrator.
