Account takeover via deep-link WebView token theft
Published Jun 3, 2024 · Updated Feb 19, 2025
Cross-site scripting in KakaoTalk 10.4.3 allows remote attackers to steal an access token and take over an account through a malicious link. The exported CommerceBuyActivity appends attacker-controlled deep-link components to buy.kakao.com, follows a redirect into an XSS sink, and sends its token in the Authorization header. A user must click the crafted link; the stolen token permits password reset, device registration, and reading non-encrypted chat messages.
