Parser delay via repeated Java class lookups
Published Dec 27, 2023 · Updated Aug 2, 2024
Resource consumption in MVEL 2.5.0.Final allows remote attackers to delay expression parsing via a crafted expression. ParseTools.subCompileExpression performs many Java class lookups while processing the supplied character array, producing exceptionally long execution. Reachability requires a consuming application to pass attacker-controlled expressions into this API, and the maintainer disputes that prolonged parsing constitutes a security flaw.
