Application interruption via missing-bracket parser recursion
Published Dec 27, 2023 · Updated Aug 2, 2024
Stack overflow in Jayway JsonPath 2.2.0 through 2.8.0 allows attackers to interrupt application processing via a crafted path expression. PathCompiler.readBracketPropertyToken adds one to a failed search for a closing square bracket, resets parsing to the path start, and recurses through token readers until the Java stack is exhausted. Reachability requires a consuming application to pass an attacker-controlled criteria expression; exploitation raises StackOverflowError and interrupts that execution path.
