CVE-2023-50975

Code execution via enabled Electron runAsNode fuse

Published Feb 21, 2024 · Updated Sep 4, 2024

Code execution in TD Advanced Dashboard 3.0.3 and earlier for macOS allows local users to run Node.js code through its Electron binary. The packaged app leaves Electron's runAsNode fuse enabled, so ELECTRON_RUN_AS_NODE makes the signed executable start as a generic Node.js process. The attacker must already be able to run commands under the macOS user account; resulting code inherits the app's permissions, including access granted to banking data.
