Authenticated account claim via unchecked event validation
Published Dec 22, 2023 · Updated Aug 2, 2024
Improper access control in Sandbox Accounts for Events 1.0.0 allows remote authenticated users to claim empty AWS accounts via its account API. The account API accepts nonexistent event IDs together with attacker-defined budget and duration instead of verifying that the event exists and authorizes the lease. Exploitation is limited to cleaned accounts and can expose temporary account access and exceed intended budgets, while existing data and infrastructure remain inaccessible.
