CVE-2023-50810

Persistent kernel code execution via unchecked setenv failure

Published Aug 9, 2024 · Updated Aug 23, 2024

Code injection in U-Boot in Sonos Firmware before S1 11.12 and S2 15.9 allows attackers to run persistent code with kernel privileges. U-Boot fails to check the setenv command's return value, allowing kernel command-line parameters to be overridden and Secure Boot to be bypassed. Exploitation requires physical device access or flash-memory write access obtained through a separate runtime vulnerability, and successful exploitation persistently compromises the device kernel.
