Local privilege escalation via unauthenticated D-Bus methods
Published Jul 26, 2024 · Updated Aug 2, 2024
Improper privilege management in Deepin File Manager 6.0.54 and earlier allows local users to perform privileged operations over D-Bus. The dde-file-manager-daemon exposes system-bus methods without Polkit authorization, including methods that change Samba passwords, create groups, alter group membership, and start services. Any unprivileged local session able to reach the system bus can invoke these root-backed methods, enabling privilege escalation and system modification without user interaction.
