Privilege escalation via disabled TLS certificate validation
Published Dec 21, 2023 · Updated Aug 2, 2024
Improper certificate validation in nOS Client 0.6.6 allows man-in-the-middle attackers to impersonate HTTPS RPC endpoints. getRPCEndpoint.js constructs an HTTPS agent with rejectUnauthorized set to false, so the client accepts an untrusted endpoint certificate. Exploitation requires control of the network path to the selected RPC endpoint; the public record claims privilege escalation but does not identify the acquired privilege or demonstrate that impact.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
