Physical authentication bypass via unauthenticated database selection
Published Dec 9, 2023 · Updated Aug 2, 2024
Authentication bypass in Goodix Fingerprint Device on Dell Inspiron 15 computers allows physically proximate attackers to log in as a valid user. Linux enrollment accepts attacker-chosen template IDs without SDCP, while an unauthenticated sensor configuration packet can select that Linux database during Windows startup. Exploitation requires physical access, an enrolled Windows fingerprint, Linux boot, and a USB man-in-the-middle device to rewrite the database-selection packet.
