SYSTEM privilege escalation via permissive installation ACLs
Published Feb 13, 2024 · Updated May 7, 2025
Incorrect default permissions in Siemens Polarion ALM before 2404.0 allow local users to gain NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM privileges. The Windows installation assigns BUILTIN\Users overly broad access across the installation tree instead of limiting it to required PostgreSQL paths. Exploitation requires local low-privileged access to the affected installation and grants full SYSTEM privileges; Linux installations are unaffected.
