CVE-2023-50218Network attack vector

Authenticated code execution via ModuleInvoke deserialization

Published May 3, 2024 · Updated Aug 2, 2024

Unsafe deserialization in Inductive Automation Ignition 8.1.3 and 8.1.30 allows remote authenticated users to execute arbitrary code. The ModuleInvoke class deserializes user-supplied data without adequate validation, allowing crafted objects to trigger execution. A valid account and network access to the Gateway are required, and successful exploitation runs code in the Gateway service context, reported as SYSTEM on Windows.
